Carry your own alarm clock or a sports watch with an alarm. Even five star hotels screw up on wake up calls.
Using Taxis
Taxis are a great way to get around, but be sure the driver turns the meter on before you depart on any local excursions. One of the scams is to claim that the meter is "broken", then for them to demand an exorbitant payment at the end of your journey...usually several times what the correct, metered fare would have been. It's supposed to be illegal, but it happens.
